Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (WIPA)

Provider Portal

Direct Client Services
If you work for an agency that provides services to individuals with disabilities who receive Social Security Disability cash benefits or Supplemental Security Income and are working or have plans to start working, you can make direct referrals to our free Work Incentives Planning and Assistance services.  In-person services can be provided to clients in one of two ways:

  • The local CWIC may come to your agency for the day and meet with up to 4 of your agency’s clients individually.
  • Your client can be scheduled in to meet with a CWIC on a day when he or she is seeing clients at a local area CareerCenter or other agency.  (Instructions Below)

To begin either process, your clients must complete the Request for Services form and two Social Security Administration Release of Information forms listed below and mail or fax them all to us as soon as possible. Please do not add or change the wording on these forms in any way.  Your clients name, date of birth, social security number and signature are the only areas to fill in their individual information.  If your client has a legal guardian that person should also sign the forms.  If you are coordinating for a CWIC to come to your agency for several clients, this should be noted on the Request for Services form.

MMC WIPA Request for Services

Social Security Administration Consent for Release of Information-Form A

Social Security Adminstration Consent for Release of Information-Form B

Your client(s) will hear back from us to coordinate an appointment as soon as possible after we receive and process these forms.

For more detail on client eligibility for MMC WIPA Services, please see our Admission Policy .  For information on when to contact a CWIC please see our flyer or click here for text version.

The MMC WIPA project is currently able to provide brochures and laminated flyers for posting/distribution at agencies.  To request brochures and/or flyers, please email wipa@mmc.org or call us at 1-888-208-8700.

Outreach
Would you and others at your agency like to know more detail about the Social Security Work Incentives?  Do you think others at your organization would like to know about the availability of WIPA services and how to access them?  The MMC WIPA project offers two types of outreach sessions for referring agencies:

  • Tier 1 – A short presentation about the need for, development of, and provision of Work Incentives Planning and Assistance services.  A review of client eligibility and the referral process is highlighted.  There is limited discussion of specific work incentives.  The purpose of Tier 1 outreach is to inform stakeholders of the availability and usefulness of WIPA services.  Tier 1 presentations are usually 30 – 45 minutes.

  • Tier 2 – at least a two-hour presentation that gives more detail regarding the SSI and SSDI Work Incentives and MaineCare coverage for working individuals.  Question and answer session as time permits.  The purpose of Tier 2 outreach is to better inform providers regarding work and benefit eligibility; providers will still refer clients to a CWIC to discuss their specific situations.  Tier 2 presentations are usually 2 ½ - 3 hours.

In addition, MMC WIPA also conducts Social Security’s WISE Seminars:

  • Work Incentives Seminar Events (WISE) -   across the State of Maine on a regular basis, the MMC WIPA project will be conducting WISE events.  The purpose of the WISE is to bring together SSA beneficiaries/recipients interested in work with community providers of employment and related services.  Beneficiaries/recipients will learn about Work Incentives and make connections to available community resources that can help them to obtain work.  For more information on WISE events, please go to:  http://www.ssa.gov/work/receivingbenefits.html#wise.

Please contact your local CWIC if you would like to request an outreach session.  Find the contact on our map.
