Emergency Preparedness
Red Cross
Posting the NNEPC's number on or near your phone is one step toward emergency preparedness in your home. Are you prepared for other emergencies? We suggest that you have some basic information and supplies collected and stored in a duffel bag or other suitable container. Some of the important items include a first aid kit, several days supply of any medications or special care items you and your family members may need, a battery operated radio, flashlights and extra batteries, extra car keys, emergency clothing and warm blankets/sleeping bags, nonperishable ready-to-eat food and 1 gal. of water per person per day. Remember to rotate these items often. Important information will include family emergency plans including a contact plan and alternate meeting sites for your family and friends, the locations of area shelters and evacuation routes. Please remember your less mobile friends and neighbors who may have difficulty reacting to an emergency. Advance planning for pets (when it's safe to take the time) is important too, since they won't be allowed in public shelters during emergencies. If you drive, prepare an emergency kit for your vehicle too. For more detailed emergency preparedness information please check these links.
